The neo-classical building clad in cream faience at the northern corner of the Promenade and Chapel Street on Blackpool's "Golden Mile" was built by Albert Lindsay Parkinson, with Tom G. Lumb as architect. The building included a large cafe area, hall and shops and was ready to be let in March 1913.  By April 1913 it was being called the White Cafe. On 17 May 1913, the Central Beach Cinema opened there and in December the following year Redman’s Cafe opened on the first floor.

In 1921 the building was extensively altered and renamed the Trocado. Architect William Thornley (qv)
