Reiss Brothers Warehouse Quay Street Manchester
Established in Manchester in 1797, Reiss Brothers shipped principally to China, employing some two hundred people. Designed by Harry S Fairhurst, the new larger warehouse, opposite the County Court, replaced their existing premises higher up Quay Street on the opposite side (qv). The building followed the principles established on the Whitworth Street warehouses, having maximum window area to provide as much light as possible and a one-way traffic system with a continuous loading platform under a glass awning at the rear.
