St. Matthew's Church, Ardwick, is about to be provided with a handsome reredos, with white alabaster for the central cross and pink alabaster for the background of the cross and for the groundwork of the side panels. The church was built largely by the late Mr. Hugh Birley,.M.P., and although the erection of reredos was contemplated in the original designs of the structure, in the present instance it will perpetuate the memory of the late Rev. Frederick A. Lallemand, M.A., who was rector of the parish from the consecration of the church in 1868 until his decease last year. The principal material of the reredos will be Bath stone, the designs being prepared by Mr. J. Medland Taylor, of Manchester, who was also the architect for the erection of the church.
