Work
Restoration and partial rebuilding

Work on the restoration and part re-building of the church at an estimated cost of £2,000 commenced in 1880 and was completed in 1884

Beeley Church, situated on the road between Rowsley and Chatsworth, and known to many Derbyshire tourists, has been restored and in part rebuilt under the care of Mr H Cockbain, of  Middleton near Manchester. The tower and chancel are ancient but the intervening building, consisting of a nave and north aisle was taken down about the beginning of this century, and the space covered by an almost square nave. What the character of the original nave and aisle may have been there are hardly any traces to show, but it probably dated from the middle of the twelfth century. A part of the south doorway in situ, a few broken fragments of a capital, and a corbel built into the walls were the only relics found. [Manchester Guardian 13 June 1884 page 6]

The 14th-century parish church of Beeley, on the road between Rowsley and Chatsworth, was reopened on Tuesday after restoration and partial rebuilding, carried out at a cost of £2,000. The architect was Mr. H. Cocklain (sic), of Manchester. [Building News 13 June 1884 page 932]
