RE-OPENING GREAT MERSEY STREET CHAPEL - The above chapel was re-opened after its restoration and painting, on the Sabbath, 11 July. The whole pulpit set was made afresh, and the the work seems very beautiful. Instead of the Sunburner that was in the ceiling, there are four Chandeliers which give excellent light. The ceiling and all the courtyards, and the face of the gallery, and outside the chapel, were all cleaned and painted, and cushions placed on the pews. Those who saw it testify that it is now one of the most elegant and beautiful chapels that can be seen. The work was taken forward under the supervision of the architect, Mr. Richard Owens, Breck Road; and the cost was above £200. [Y Tyst Cymreig 16 July 1869 page 5]
