The parish of St Paul, Chorlton‑on‑Medlock, in Hulme rural deanery, was formed July 22, 1862, out of St Saviour's, Chorlton‑on‑Medlock: the church in Brunswick Street, Oxford street, built and consecrated in 1862, is an edifice of stone in the Geometric style, consisting of chancel, nave, aisles and an embattled tower at the south‑east angle, with pinnacles, and containing one bell. In 1878 the chancel was lengthened several feet, and the church generally renovated, including the insertion of a new stained east window of five lights, and a memorial reredos of Caen stone, at a cost of £1,100, under the direction of Messrs. Horton and Bridgford, architects: there are more than 1,100 sittings, of which about half are free.
