Rhos College is assumed to have stood at the junction of College Avenue and Abbey Road Llandrillo-yn-Rhos and should not be confused with the nearby Penrhos Girls School. Details are sparce but the school buildings appear to have been built by Henry Goldsmith at his own expense between 1898 and September 1900, and then leased to the school. Construction proved to be not without difficulty, with friction between the contractor and the two men appointed by Goldsmith to act as clerk of works. The local press recorded two cases of assault. Edward Evans was also in financial difficulty with the contract being taken over by trustees.
