STONE LAYING CEREMONY AT ROSEGROVE. Burnley Primitive Methodists initiated a forward movement on Saturday. For some little time the cause has been represented at by a mission. Now school-church is process of construction, and on Saturday, the memorial stones of the new building, which is situated in Lowerhouse-lane, near its junction with Gannow Lane, were laid. The new building, when completed, will, it is estimated, seat about 350 persons, and its cost will be between £700 and £800. Land has been acquired alongside the new building to accommodate a church when the development of the cause renders that step advisable. The building is an excellent one for the purpose. At present, it is only contemplated to build the school, but completed designs of the whole scheme church and school premises have been made by the architect, Mr John B. Thornley, of Darwen and London, who specialist in churches and schools. The whole buildings are to be in the Gothic style of architecture. The new building comprises, on the ground floor, assembly hall, infants’ room, with staircase to basement, which contains one classroom, conveniences, heating chamber, and large reception room. The main entrance is placed in Lowerhouse Lane, with supplementary entrance and exit in the street at the rear of the buildings. The ventilation will be on the latest principle. The heating is to be low pressure hot water system. The building will be faced with Yorkshire parpoints and stone dressings, and facing bricks at rear. The internal woodwork is to be of pitch-pine varnished.
