ASHTON-UNDER-LYNE - The Lancashire Entertainments Limited, 5 Cathedral-gates, Manchester, have acquired a site at the corner of Old-street where they propose to erect a super cinema with accommodation for about 2,000 persons. ASHTON-UNDER-LYNE - Lancashire Entertainments, 5 Cathedral Gates, Manchester, have brought forward a scheme first mooted in April 1932 for the erection of a 2,000-capacity cinema, the “Roxy,” to be erected on a site in Old-street, Plans, which have been prepared by Mr John Knight FRIBA, 5 Cross Street, Manchester, have been lodged with the council for approval. ROXY CINEMA FOR ASHTON - The scheme for providing a new super kinema at Ashton-under-Lyne have been revived and preliminary discussions have gone so far that plans have been prepared by John Knight FRIBA of Cross Street Manchester. Lancashire Entertainments Limited who are interested in other theatres are the promoters of this venture, which is estimated to cost £50,000. The name of the proposed theatre is the "Roxy" and seating accommodation will be provided for 2,500 persons. [Kinematograph Weekly 26 January 1933 Page 53]
