RUSHOLME NEW PUBLIC HALL AND LIBRARY – A soiree in connection with this institution was held last evening. The report stated that the Committee had chosen a site for the new building in Dickenson Road, which they had purchased for £275. A reading room, a library and classrooms would be built, with a large room above, capable of holding 750 persons. The building would be faced in white brick, and be in the Gothic style. The design of Mr W W Whitaker had been selected from several others. The total cost would be £2,000. [Manchester Guardian 19 January 1859 page 3]
