THE SALFORD NEW SEWAGE WORKS - The extensive works which for the last four years have been in course of construction at Mode Wheel for dealing with the sewage of Salford by a process of precipitation similar to the method adopted at Leeds, are now practically complete, and, in the course of a month, it is expected, will be in operation. At present the sewage of Salford, is discharged direct into the river Irwell at the Mode Wheel outfall, but it is intended by the new works (which have been carried out from the designs of Mr. Arthur Jacob; the borough engineer) to remove solid matter from the sewage and allow only water in a comparatively pure state to pass into the river. The Works have evidently been laid out with the view of providing for every possible contingency, and have been constructed to deal, with something like 27 million gallons of sewage daily, although the present daily quantity does not, under ordinary circumstances, exceed six or seven million gallons.
