Schools Beech Street Peel Green Eccles (Architectural Competition)
PEEL GREEN'S NEW SCHOOLS. Last night, at Eccles Town. Council meeting, it was resolved to build a school at Beech-street, Peel Green, for 800 scholars instead of 500, originally proposed. Competitive plans from twenty architects were received, and it was resolved to award the premiums as follow: 1, £30, Henry Lord, Deansgate, Manchester; 2, £20, Charles Clegg and Sons, Spring Gardens, Manchester; 3, £10, J. ECCLES - In a competition for mixed schools at Eccles for new mixed schools to accommodate 800 children in which twenty designs were received, those submitted by Mr Henry Ford (sic) FRIBA of Manchester have been placed first and those of Messrs Charles Clegg & Son of Manchester and Mr J H Fletcher second and third respectively [Building News 10 July 1908 Page 44]
