Secondary School, Clitheroe
CLITHEROE'S NEW SCHOOL - OLD GRAMMAR SCHOOL'S SCCCESSOR. - On Saturday afternoon Lord Derby laid the foundation-stone of a new secondary school which is being built at Clitheroe by the Lancashire County Council and the local authorities at a cost of about £20,000. The building, which is the first of its kind erected by the County authority, is designed as a dual school as distinguished from an ordinary mixed school. The sexes will be in separate wings of the buildings for teaching purposes but will have the common use of the assembly hall, science, and other departments. The building will also be used for technical purposes, and will accommodate 128 boys and 123 girls. The building contract has been let to Messrs J Bleazard and Sons, Clitheroe. The design that oi Mr. H. Littler, county architect. and the work will be done under his superintendence. The site, which is in the centre of the town. has hitherto been occupied by the Royal Grammar School, which was founded in 1554. [Manchester Guardian 21 October 1912 page 6]
