NEW SCHOOL FOR SEEDLEY,  LAYING THE FOUNDATION STONE: SPEECH OF THE MAYOR OF SALFORD - The memorial stone of the new Seedley Council School, Liverpool-street, Pendleton was laid on Thursday afternoon by his Worship, the Mayor of Salford (Alderman W Stephens JP) ..... The new school is the sixteenth school building erected directly from the rates but the first to be built by the Corporation as the Local Education Authority. The area of the site is 9593 square yards which has been acquired at a cost of £3,650. The school will provide accommodation on three floors for 420 boys and 370 girls and 380 infants, or a total of 1170 places. Each department is provided with a central hall. There will also be a special room for cookery instruction. The estimated cost of the building is £15,510 and of the furniture about £1060. It is expected that the building will be ready for occupation in about twelve months. The architect of the school is Mr Henry Lord FRIBA and the contractors for its erection are Messrs W Southern & Sons of Salford. The need for the school has arisen owing to the growth of the population in the Seedley and Weaste districts. The Tootal-road Council School which was opened in May 1903 is practically full as are also the Langworthy-road and West Liverpool-street Council Schools. ....The report also included a list of those present, and details of the speeches.
