An increasingly free and inventive interpretation of the vernacular, the shop and seven houses form an asymmetrical terrace with a pair of overlapping gables as its principal feature.  Doors have flat canopies held by iron stays while fanlights above light the interiors. The shop at the junction with Cheapside had a corner oriel window above the shop entrance. Comparison between the illustration in Academy Architecture and an early photograph indicate changes in the design of the shop front as built.

Subsequent alterations have done much to destroy the original unity of the composition.
