Shops and Warehouses, Market Street, Manchester
The new building adjoining the above, and on the actual site of the premises which were destroyed by fire, has an imposing and handsome stone frontage, is six storeys in height, and in point of architecture is Gothic. The lighting and ventilation of the building have received the careful attention of the architects, Messrs Royle and Bennett, and nothing has been omitted to make the premises suit the purposes for which they were intended, namely, shops and warehouses. The ground floor comprises three shops and separate back and front entrances to the two warehouses which constitute the remaining portion of the building, and which are equally divided. The area which the building covers is about 460 square yards. There are already tenants for a considerable portion of the premises. The contractor for the work connected with the building is Mr William Southern, of Salford. [Manchester City News. Saturday 29 November 1879 Page 3 Column 5].
