It is named after Silvester Horne, who was a Congregational minister, served as Liberal MP for Ipswich, and was a noted orator. He was the father of the humorous broadcaster, Kenneth Horne. The building has a main auditorium (with stage) seating 200 people plus an adjoining meeting room seating 40 with adjoining kitchen. There are two committee rooms seating up to 20 people. Opened September 1917.
