In 1853, when the railway station opened, it was decided to set up a mission in Broadheath. But instead of a usual church building, services were held on a canal boat, moored where the Bridgewater Canal passed under Manchester Road. As industry boomed in the area, a school was built on Sinderland Road in 1871 and services were moved from the canal boat, to the new building. In 1891, a chancel was added and the name St Alban's Church School, was given to the building.

The school built about 20 years ago at Sinderland Lane, Broadheath, Altrincham has been altered, enlarged  and adapted for public worship, and was opened on Sunday afternoon under the licence of the Bishop of Chester as St Alban’s School-Church. All the seats are free and unappropriated. A valuable American organ has been presented by Mr Joseph Gaskarth. The architects were Messrs Tate and Popplewell of this city.
