THE NEW CHURCH AT FULSHAW – The new memorial school-church, now erecting in memory of Mrs Fox of Harefield by her husband is progressing towards completion, and is expected to be ready for opening in the course of the summer. It is placed in a district where church accommodation is much required and where a school has been long needed. The building itself will provide an ornamental feature for the neighbourhood, the style being modern Gothic, and it will be embellished by a spire and a central bell turret. It is intended to accommodate about 350 persons. Its dimensions are 72 feet by 52 feet; the nave is 41 feet by 24 feet; the chancel 21 feet by 14 feet; the transepts 13 feet 6 inches square. The vestries each 10 feet square. The roof will be an open one, the timbers being stained and varnished. The floor will be boarded with the exception of the chancel, which will be laid in encaustic tiling. The benches in the chancel will be of pitch pine. The exterior will be of grey Stoke bricks set in black putty, with Alderley stone dressings. Originally it was understood the building would be ready by midsummer, but the difficulty in procuring some of the necessary material has created the delay. NEW CHURCH, WILMSLOW - On Saturday afternoon a new church was opened in Wilmslow. The edifice has been founded and erected at the sole expense of Mr George Fox, now of Elm Hurst Hall Lichfield, but late of Harefield Wilmslow in memory of his wife. It is situated in Chapel Road, Fulshaw and becomes the second chapel of ease to St Bartholomew's, Wilmslow. It has cost about £3000 and will furnish sitting accommodation for nearly 400 persons. The style is modern Gothic, the exterior being of grey Stoke bricks with Alderley stone dressings. Mr Massey of Alderley Edge is the builder. [British Architect 17 January 1877 Page 26]
