St Bartholomew’s Church Schools
FOUNDATION OF ST. BARTHOLOMEW'S CHURCH SCHOOLS—On Wednesday, at noon, the first stone of the Sunday, Day, and Infant Schools, in connexion with the church of St. Bartholomew, Regent-road, Salford, was laid by Wilbraham Egerton, Esq., of Tatton Park, in the" presence of a large body of the clergy and inhabitants. The school situate in Regent-street, Regent-road, about half way between Oldfield-road and the river, and is in the midst of very poor and densely-populated district, to which, under the blessing of God, it must be productive of the most inestimable advantages. Accommodation will be provided for between 700 and 800 children. The school will be a neat, plain, substantial edifice, and will be erected at a cost of £1200. … The architects are Messrs Starkey and Cuffley, of this town; and the builders, Messrs Birkett and Napton.[Manchester Courier 9 September 1843 page 8]
