Opened March 1860, Tudor style of architecture for 350 scholars. Report indicates that Maxwell Scott was also present at the opening ceremony. It would seem that the building was considerably extended by 1896 - St. Catherine’s, The Holt, Higher Tranmere, built for 270 boys, 270 girls & 285 infants [Kelly's Directory of Birkenhead 1896]
