St David’s Welsh Church, Lime Grove, has been sold to the Victoria University of Manchester and trustees of the church have acquired “Woodthorpe,” Oxford Place, Victoria Park, on which it is proposed to erect a church and parochial hall to plans prepared by G Caradoc Roberts FFSA of Roberts Wood and Elder, architects, 6 King Street, Manchester. [Builder 1 March 1935 Page 428]

THE NEW WELSH CHURCH - The trustees of St. David's Welsh Church, whose congregation lately met in Lime Grove, have bought the house called Woodthorpe, opposite Hulme Hall in Victoria Park, and propose to build on the site a church and parochial hall which have been designed for them in a style somewhat, after the Spanish baroque by Mr. G. Caradoc Roberts. The immediate intention is to build the hall, which should be finished in October and will seat 250 people. This building will run parallel with Oxford Place; the site for the church will be at right angles and the remainder of the frontage may be occupied by an arcaded walk and caretaker's cottage. Mr. Roberts's drawing shows a square tower with a chamber for bells. The building will probably be done in small bricks and its roofs be in bright-coloured tiles.
