A NEW BOARD SCHOOL FOR SALFORD - Mr. Peter Bury laid, on Saturday afternoon, the memorial stone of the St. George's Infant Board School, which the Salford School Board is erecting in Wellington-street, Whit-lane, Pendleton. The site covers an area of 2,657 square yards and has been purchased at a cost of £1,107. Accommodation will be provided for about 300 children, the building consisting of one large room 64 feet long by 32 feet wide, with two classrooms, each 24 feet long by 20 feet, and there will also be cloak rooms, teachers' room, and the usual offices. In design the building is of a simple character. The contract for the whole of the works has been taken by Messrs. Southern and Sons for £2,548 and is being carried out from the designs and under the superintendence of Mr. Henry Lord, architect, Manchester. The total cost is estimated at £4,280, including paving and sewering, furniture, etc. [ Manchester Courier 4 April 1885 page 15]

 

The memorial stone of St. George's Infants' Board School, Wellington-street, Whit-lane, Pendleton, was laid on Saturday. The designs have been prepared by Mr. Henry Lord, of Manchester. The school will be simple in character, and is to be a one-story building, consisting of one largo room, 64 feet by 32 feet, and two classrooms, each of which will be 24 feet by 20 feet Accommodation is to be secured in the new structure for 378 infants, and the contract for the erection of the building has been undertaken by Messrs.
