On Saturday afternoon the Bishop of Manchester laid the foundation stone of St Luke's Church, Miles Platting, in the presence of a large concourse of people. The greater part of the funds necessary for the erection of the church have been subscribed by Mr Hugh Birley MP and the remainder will be raised by contributions. The site of the church, parsonage and schools was given by the Dean and Chapter. The church is of brick - outside and in -relieved with stone dressings. The nave will be very broad and lofty; the aisles being narrow in proportion, and there will be a good clerestory. At the west end of the nave there will be a semi-circular baptistry and at the north-east corner an apsidal chapel, for early morning prayers and other occasions on which only a few can be expected to assemble. There will be room in the church for from 700 to 800 people. The cost will be about £6,400. The architects are Messrs Medland and Henry Taylor.
