St Luke the Physician, Benchill Road, Brownley Green, Wythenshawe
Built in 1938 by Taylor & Young to seat 500 at a cost of £11,000. Orthodox planning and construction, showing many characteristic design ideas of the period. The simple treatment of the concrete roof is worth notice. Unlike the other churches of the period, no special emphasis is given to the font position. The choir stalls too are in the conventional position while the organ occupies the west gallery. Behind the east end a pleasant courtyard is flanked by the Vicarage, School and Hall.
