St Margaret's Board School Salford (additional 757 places)
Woodhouse and Willoughby’s appointment was confirmed at the School Board meeting held on Monday 19 September 1892. It would seem that they were one of the unsuccessful entrants in the architectural competition for the John Street School and were awarded the St Margaret’s commission as “second prize.” The report in the British Architect makes no mention of the other projects and thus may be considered somewhat misleading.
The architects for the proposed enlargement of St Margaret’s School were Messrs Woodhouse and Willoughby of Manchester, chosen from the eight competing firms. [Manchester Courier Tuesday 20 September 1892 Page 7 Column 1]
The names of eight firms of architects were recently brought before the Salford School Board from which to make a selection in connection with the designing and building of St Margaret’s Board School to accommodate 500 scholars. Eventually the Board have appointed Messrs Woodhouse and Willoughby of Manchester and Stockport as architects for the work [British Architect 30 September 1892 Page 239]
