PROPOSED ENLARGEMENT OF ST MARGARET’S SCHOOLS -  On Saturday afternoon a meeting of the committee of gentlemen appointed to consider the advisability of enlarging St Margaret’s Schools, Rooden-lane, was held under the presidency of the vicar (the Rev Stanley Swinburne MA) The committee accepted the plans laid before them by the sub-committee the estimated cost being between £800 and £900. They have been prepared by Mr Percy Lodge architect of Prestwich and will provide three new classrooms with lavatories, kitchen etc. The enlargement of the school has been rendered necessary mainly in order to carry on the work of St Margaret’s Sunday-school. A further and special motive has however actuated the committee in their endeavours to carry out the scheme, and that is the absolute necessity for evening continuation classes. The neighbourhood labours under the great disadvantage of not possessing any means by which the education acquired in the elementary school may be carried on at an age when it is doubly useful in starting them out in life. A great part of the education acquired in the elementary schools by boys is forgotten when they leave school and it hoped by means of the evening continuation schools and technical classes to give them a sound and thoroughly practical commercial education.
