The enlargement of St. Oswald's Church, Sowerby, near Thirsk, is in progress. The number of inhabitants has increased to 2,050, and the church at present provides for 320 persons only. Plans by Mr. Brierley, architect, of York, have been approved for the addition of a north aisle to the existing church, which will afford accommodation for about 150 free additional places, and for the building of a new vestry. The committee have accepted a tender from Messrs. Wilson and Sons, of Leeds, for the building of a new aisle at a cost of £1,048. [Building News 7 March 1902 page 342]
