Originally known as St Paul’s Chapel, the building was consecrated on 28 July 1765 and was consecrated again in 1778 after considerable enlargement. The building and the site were acquired by Messrs. J. and N. Philips and Company, of Church Street for a warehouse extension. The congregation first moved to a temporary “tin church” in Tib Street before building a church on a new site in Oldham Road, New Cross (qv).

The site is now covered by Tib Street multi-storey car park.
