For a little over two and a half years the congregation of St Peter’s Oldham have here assembled in the parochial school-room owing to the demolition of the old church and the building of the handsome pile which now stands on the site of the old St Peter’s. …. The new church will certainly rank as the most handsome structure of the kind in the town, with possibly the exception of St Mary’s more commonly called Oldham Church, and it is a thousand pities that it is hidden away, almost out of sight, in a dingy neighbourhood, and within a stone’s throw of some of the most unsightly and tumbledown property in the town. ….. It is built of flecked Runcorn stone within and without. The total cost, exclusive of the gifts received, is almost £13,000 and the work has been carried out by Messrs T Bebbington and Son, of Oldham, from the designs of Messrs Wild, Collins, and Wild, architects of Oldham
