ST SIMON’S DAY SCHOOLS, SALFORD - The foundation stone of the new classrooms and extension of these schools was laid by Mr Henry Boddington on Saturday afternoon last. … The average attendance of scholars had doubled during the past ten years, and the accommodation had been found so inadequate that it was found absolutely necessary to do something in the matter. The district is a very poor one, and it would have been impossible to carry out the objects without the help given by Mr Joseph Rice, Mr Boddington, Messrs Oliver and Charles Heywood, Mrs Langworthy and others, through whose generosity £1,150 towards the £1,600 required had been subscribed. The contractor is Mr John Ramsbottom of Pendleton, and the architect Mr Henry Lord. [Manchester Guardian 28 July 1890 page 8]
