St Thomas: Lumm Street Hyde
The district of St Thomas’s for which this church is to be provided, is a Peel parish, formed 18 years ago. It has never been provided with a church, although owing to the increasing population of the town, new churches were much wanted. ... The new church is to be built from plans by Mr J M Taylor of Manchester. At present it is intended only to construct a nave which will be 72 feet long by 43 feet wide and a chancel with vestry and organ chamber. That, however, is but part of the intended plan, which includes north and south transepts, and an extension of the nave. The walls are to be of rubble, with brick dressings, and the roof is to be of timber, stained and varnished. The pews will be of the most modern style, and the passages paved with Broseley tiles. The builders are Messrs Robinson and Son, Hyde, and the amount of their tender is £2,128. [Manchester Guardian 23 August 1867 page 3]
