Thatchby Oak is an early 20th century detached house constructed in concrete blocks supplied by the factory in Brockenhurst.  It has plain painted rendered walls, metal Crittall casement windows and a thatched roof with block cut ridge.  The building is believed to have been constructed of concrete blocks made at the Brockenhurst Concrete Block Company’s works besides Brockenhurst Railway Station.  The building lies within the original manorial enclosure, with the remainder of the medieval boundary bank showing as an earthwork across the front garden. Importantly, one surviving oak tree remains on the residual area of boundary bank. [Brockenhurst, The Wiers and Sway Conservation Area Character Appraisal New Forest National Park]
