The Biggins, a new mansion erected in 1893 for William Smith Paget-Tomlinson Esq. DL, J.P, within 200 yards of the old house, is built of local freestone and limestone in the Elizabethan Domestic style, from designs by the late Mr William Verity: the interior comprises a spacious hall, round which are grouped all the living rooms, and there is a music room constructed as a special feature and standing alone; the house is approached by a drive which crosses the boundary line between Westmorland and Lancashire, the lodge being in the latter county; Dr Paget-Tomlinson succeeded to the estate on the death in November, 1889, of Miss Elizabeth Tomlinson. The Earl of Lonsdale, who is lord of the manor, Lady Henry Cavendish Bentinck, and Dr. Paget-Tomlinson are the chief landowners.  [Kelly 1900].

Design possibly based on Fountains Hall. The house was destroyed by fire while occupied by troops in 1942.
