The hotel, standing well back from the high road occupies the site of a very old and well-known hostelry and has been built for Messrs Magee, Marshall & Company Limited, brewers of Bolton. The lower portion of the building is of red Ruabon brick, the dressings to mullioned windows, doors etc being of Yorkshire stone, neatly tooled. The upper portion is in English oak, solid-framed half timber with panels filled in flush with cement and whitened; the roof is covered with green Elterwater slates. Mr J Simpson of Bolton and Liverpool is the architect, Mr H Leah acting as clerk of works.
