The Street estate near Rivington came into the possession of Peter Martin (1802-1879), mill owner, following his marriage to Mary Tetley Walker. However, the original house was demolished to make way for the Liverpool Corporation reservoirs. In 1853 the family moved to a new house, on the western shore of Upper paid for with the compensation monies received from Liverpool Corporation,
