The United Methodist Church and Schools at Broughton Park, Manchester, by Mr George E Tonge of Southport have just been commenced, Messrs William Brown & Sons of Salford being the builders. The chapel seats 450 and the School 350. Thin Whithnell bricks and bath stone dressings are being used. The foundation stones are about to be laid [Building News 6 March 1908 Page 342]

Foundation stones of the United Methodist Church and Schools Leicester Road, Cheetham Hill were laid last Saturday (8 March 1908). The cost will be about £7000. [Building News 13 March 1908 Page 404]

The new church in Leicester Road will provide accommodation for 500 people and adjoining there is a school for classes and institutional work. The money received from the sale of the old buildings forms the main portion of the building fund. Mr George E Tonge of Southport is the architect. The buildings will be of brick with Bath stone dressings, and a novel feature will be a sloping floor. [Manchester Guardian Monday 9 March 1908 Page 5 Column 5]

A NEW METHODIST CHURCH - Foundation stones for a new United Methodist Church and schools were laid on a site in Leicester Road, Higher Broughton on Saturday afternoon. The new building, which will seat 500 people, is to replace and carry on the work of the United Methodist Free Church in Cheetham Hill Road which some months ago was sold. The Rev Dr D Brook, the president of the National Free Church Council was present at the ceremony and, in the course of an address, said this was the very first occasion of laying the foundation stone of a town church in connection with the United Methodist Church for many years.
