Thirteen Storage Warehouses. No 8 Quay North. Ship Canal Docks
Following the completion and opening of the Ship Canal, the Corporation of Manchester was anxious to attract trade and develop direct trade links that had previously been made through the Port of Liverpool. The Manchester Ship Canal Warehousing Company, registered on 4 April 1895, was therefore established to provide the necessary buildings and infrastructure. The first set of 15 warehouses was divided between multi-storey storage buildings and single storey transit sheds. These buildings were fully occupied from the time of their opening in mid-1896. Among these early buildings were thirteen storage warehouses on No 8 Quay North
