UNITED PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH. OPENING OF GREENHEYS SCHOOL. The congregation in connection with the above church which has to the present time been assembling in the Old Manor Court Room, Lower King-street, removed on Sunday last to a commodious handsome school and other necessary buildings situate in Coupland-street, Greenheys, which has just been completed for the use of the congregation, till there be erected on a larger portion of the same plot of ground, a chapel and other premises. The school will accommodate about 400 persons and is entered from Loyd-street, through a vestibule which has an ante-room on each side. The large room is 55 feet long, by 30 feet wide, of suitable height, and well lighted by a lantern on the roof, and, being carefully proportioned, and symmetrically arranged in all its parts, the effect, though simple, is elegant and pleasing to a high degree. The gas lighting is very successful, and is, at the same time, the means of completely effecting the ventilation of the room. Of course, until the chapel is erected on the adjoining ground, the present external aspect of the building appears somewhat unfinished. Adjoining the school is a house for the doorkeeper, at the back of which there are two commodious classrooms, having separate entrances to the large room. In the cellars, boilers and other necessaries are fitted up for supplying tea. The completeness of the buildings and their handsome internal appearance, do great credit to the taste and skill of Mr J E Gregan, the architect who designed them; and to Messrs Hay Nish and M'Kean, the builders who erected them.
