In 1868 Heywood commissioned a new house for Alfred Dewes, vicar of Christ Church, who had recently married Adelaide Peel, a sister of Heywood's wife, Louisa. Built in Hospital Road, Pendlebury, and completed in 1869, this was one of Bodley's pioneering houses in the Queen Anne style; it was demolished in 1958.

Alfred Dewes had been an undergraduate at Queens' College, Cambridge in the 1840s with one of Bodley's older brothers, Thomas.
