An Arts and Crafts style detached house built in the traditional Lakeland manner with whitened roughcast elevations and slated roofs. Designed about 1915-1919 by William L Dolman, the house enjoys extensive views to the central Lakeland fells and retains a number of original architectural features including English oak doors and leaded light windows. A number of planning applications were submitted for Waterbeck Lodge in the name of J G Sheldon or Shieldon* between 1915 and 1919. It is assumed that construction was delayed as a result of the First World War and only progressed in the inter-war period.

* Spelling varies in Kendal Records office records.
