B0LT0N.—The Wesleyan Chapel in Bridge Street was re-opened last week, after alterations, carried out from designs of Mr. Thomas Ormrod, of Town Hall-square, Bolton, at a cost of over £3,500. The roof has been renewed, a fresh ceiling being provided, and the whole re-slated, and the other works include new galleries and pulpit, re-pewing, new heating apparatus—in fact, renewing every part of the interior of the building. Mr. Warburton took the contract for the painting and plastering of the walls; Mr. Robert Walsh, Daubhill, the heating apparatus; Mr. Joseph Bell, the plumbing and glazing; Mr. W. Townson, the joinering work; and Mr. Alfred Glover, the stonework necessary for the alteration of the front of the chapel, so as to have a central entrance in addition to the two already existing, and a vestibule. For a new organ, the tender of Messrs. Forster and Andrews, Hull (£800), was accepted. The ceiling is laid out in 16 panels, with intersecting beams; there is a large circular panel in the centre for the principal chandelier, richly ornamented, and four smaller panels for the other chandeliers. The ceiling has a cream ground picked out in colours, and the walls are sage-green, with a dado of cinnamon colour, surmounted by a neat border. The gallery has been lowered about 2 feet, and the shape has been altered. All pews are of pitch-pine. Tho pulpit is of the rostrum type, and is also of pitch-pine, relieved with carvings. The accommodation is about the same as before—900 sittings. {Building News 17 April 1885 page 604]
