CHESHIRE. - For the whole or any part of the works required in the erection of the New Wesleyan Chapel, Chorley, Alderley Edge, Cheshire. Drawings, &c., with Hayley and Son, architects, 45, Cross street, Manchester, to whom sealed tenders are to be delivered before the 31st inst.  [Building News 28 March 1862 p226]

A chapel at Alderley Edge, in the Macclesfield Circuit, by the same architects as St. John's, Liverpool, is also another example of the growing passion for a higher style of chapel architecture, and, in this respect, of its gradual approximation to Mother Church—a passion to which all who love to witness “fairy dreams in stone” will do all rightful honour. Towards this chapel Mr. John Heaton, of Bolton, having purchased a residence at the Edge, contributed £500. It is in this princely way that Wesleyan Methodism is sustained; and surely neither the wealth of individuals, nor the aggregate wealth of the community, or whatever of genuine religious devotion it may contain, can be more fittingly represented than in erecting fitting temples for religious worship. Our further space at disposal will not admit of a detailed description of this chapel. It must suffice to say, it is a cruciform structure, with nave, two transepts, and a tower and spire. The style of architecture is Geometrical Pointed; and the whole exterior of the edifice is constructed of Yorkshire pierre-point stone, with Alderley stone dressings. The cost, exclusive of the land, was about £3,500. [Building News 3 July 1863 page 504]

ALDERLEY EDGE (Macclesfield Circuit) - A new Wesleyan Chapel has been opened here. The chapel, after designs by Messrs. Hayley and Son, of Manchester, is a Gothic structure, capable of seating 550 persons. The estimated cost, including land, is about £4,000. [The Builder 18 July 1863 page 518]
