A new Wesleyan chapel is in course of erection near Pickering, on the site of an older and smaller place of worship. It will be Roman in style with a tower and spirelet, 75 feet in height, on the chief elevation, and will seat 460 persons. The fittings will be of polished pitch pine. Behind the chapel, a schoolroom, measuring 41 feet by 25ft, will be built, and there will also be two classrooms, a lecture-room, a minister's vestry, as well as kitchen and cellar accommodation. The architects are Messrs. Potts, Pickup, and Dixon, of Manchester and Oldham, and the general contractors are Messrs. Martindale and Barnes, Pickering. The whole is estimated to cost £2,000 and in addition two ministers' residences are to be erected at an outlay of £800.   [Building News 10 May 1889 page 651]

The memorial stones of a new Wesleyan Chapel and School were laid at Pickering, Yorks, on the 30th ult. The architects, Messrs. Potts, Pickup, and Dixon, of Oldham and Manchester, whose designs were selected in open competition, have adopted the Romanesque style for the new buildings, which will be faced with stone, including the tower. The chapel, with end gallery, provides seating for 460 persons, and the schoolroom accommodates 200 scholars. There are also two classrooms and a minister' s vestry, with heating-chamber in the basement. The interior woodwork is of pitch-pine, and the windows of chapel will be filled with coloured lead lights. The total cost will be about £2,000. Messrs. A new Wesleyan chapel, built from plans, selected in competition, by Messrs. Potts, Pickup, and Dixon, of Oldham, was opened at Pickering on Friday. It has cost £3,000, replaced an older one on the same site, and is Renaissance in style. The body of the chapel will seat 470 persons; and in addition there are an assembly-room, a couple of class-rooms, and lecture-room, besides caretakers' houses, and extensive kitchen and cellar provision.
