NEW WESLEYAN CHAPEL MOSSLEY – The memorial stone of a new Wesleyan Chapel and Schools, Mossley, was laid on Saturday afternoon by Mr George Andrew. The building will be erected on an excellent site, in Stamford Road, and will comprise a commodious school on the basement, and chapel with gallery at one end only, to seat 600 persons, besides which there will be four classrooms and vestry, and the usual offices. The chapel will be fitted with open pews, raised communion and rostrum pulpit, which, with all the internal woodwork finishings, will be executed in pitch pine and varnished. The chapel ceiling will be coffered and panelled. Externally the whole will be built of stone. At the north end there will be a campanile and spire 100 feet high which will be visible almost the entire length of the valley from Stalybridge to Saddleworth. The style of architecture is Lomardo-Venetian, and the estimated cost is a little over £2,000. The architect is Mr William Williamson, of St Mary’s Gate, Manchester.
