MANCHESTER - The foundation-stone of new Wesleyan schools, to be erected on a plot of land at the corner of Duke-street, Gravel-lane, Salford, has recently been laid. They are to be two storeys high, of brick, with stone dressings, and will accommodate 1,000 children. The land has cost £800, and the estimated cost of the building is £2,500; making a total of £3,300, the whole of which sum has been, or is to be, raised by voluntary contributions. The following are some particulars of the building, the foundation stone of which was laid on the 21st April last - It is a large two storeyed structure, semi-Gothic in style, having a high-pitched roof, and is built of red brick, with blue Brousil stone dressings. On the basement storey is the mixed schoolroom for boys and girls, 67 feet by 38 feet; the infant schoolroom, 40 feet by 27 feet; and an intermediate class room. Above are seen class-rooms and a library room, and the Sunday school which is 67 feet by 38 feet. Ample accommodation is provided for 1,000 Sunday and 400 day scholars (including infants). The rooms are well-lighted and great attention has been paid to the ventilation. The architects are Messrs Hayley and Son, Cross-street Manchester; and the contractor Mr Thomas Pink, Clarence-street, Cheetham. The total cost of the building is estimated at £3,600.
