Wesleyan Schools, Urmston Lane, Urmston
URMSTON – The foundation stone of new schools in connection with the Bridgewater Street circuit of the Wesleyan Methodist body, situate in Urmston Lane, Urmston, Stretford, has been laid. When finished, the schools will accommodate 250 children in classes; and when used as a chapel – as it will be until the requirements of the village demand greater accommodation – it will seat more than 300 adults. There is one room, 58 feet by 30 feet internally, and three classrooms, the largest of which is 18 feet by 15 feet. The style of architecture will be a simple and early type of Gothic. One of the principal features of the building will be a bell tower, 60 feet high. The cost of the structure is expected to be about £1750. The architects are Messrs Fuller and Cubitt of London and the builder is Mr Mark Foggett of Cheetham. [Builder 30 December 1871 page 1034]
