WEST SALFORD LABOUR PARTY NEW HEADQUARTERS. The large old house known as Ashfield, which for years has been used as the headquarters and institute of the West Salford Labour Party, was recently purchased, along with the estate, by the Sutton Trust for the erection of more blocks of working-class flats. A condition of the contract was that the trust should give a free conveyance to the party of a piece of land, just over one acre, in Seedley Road on which to build new headquarters, plans for which have been prepared by Mr H S Fairhurst. Work on the new building will begin in a few weeks. It will comprise secretary’s offices, a large hall to seat 400 and two smaller halls, each capabe of accommodating a hundred people. It is probable that one of these may be used as a billiard-room. In addition there will be caretaker’s quarters. There will still be sufficient land available for tennis courts and a bowling green.[Manchester Guardian 12 September 1935 page 11]
