This nicely designed frontage is faced with Messrs Dalton's pinky-buff terra cotta and the roof is of red tiles. Mr J R Mellalien of Middleton is the contractor and the total cost is about £2,100. [British Architect 11 November 1892 page 349 ]

With bold projecting eaves and tall dormers this three storey building is located close to Middleton's Market Place. The rainwater pipes and fittings show Wood's interest in Art Nouveau. The symmetry of the first and second floors is in marked contrast with the asymmetry of the ground floor where three completely different doorways, of increasing elaboration, separate the ground floor windows.
