The house was built for John J. McKenna, a wine and spirit merchant, his wife, two children and six servants at the southern end of Bonville Road, west side. It was originally set in approximately two acres of land, although the owners added to their initial land purchase in subsequent years. The house had a large breakfast room instead of the more usual library or billiards room. Eight bedrooms on the first floor and two attic rooms. Beer cellar, wine cellar and basement larder.
